What happens after we die? One of the greatest fears we as humans have is the fear of death. I believe the main reason for this is because we aren’t sure what happens after we pass – it’s the fear of the unknown.

Fear of the unknown is something we fight against daily, whether we recognize it or not.
Whether you are worrying about your own eventual death or that of a loved one; or working through grief, wondering what happened to your loved one and where they are now, you can put your mind at ease because what happens after we die is probably very different than what you imagine or fear.
We Never Truly Die
Before we incarnate (and while our soul is still in energy form), we make certain choices about our life.
We choose things such as:
- Our birth parents
- Some of the life experiences we’d like to have
- What other souls we will connect with on earth
We don’t necessarily decide how we will die or when, unless that is part of the Karma we are working through. Sometimes though, we can choose the time when our body will go back to Source before we incarnate.
This in itself can be a great comfort to us when we contemplate our own or a loved one’s death, as well as during the grieving process.
Another reassuring fact is that our earthly body is simply the shape we take during this incarnation; it is the shell for our Soul to experience life through.
Our TRUE Essence is our soul. When we die, only that shell dies. Our Essence never dies.
If you are grieving a deceased loved one, know that they truly are still with you, even though you can’t see them as they once were.
They celebrate with you when you get married, have a child or get a big promotion, and they are there to comfort you when you deal with setbacks or tragedies.
Even more exciting is the fact that you can learn to communicate with them if you work on developing your intuition and sensibility to energy vibration!
And of course, you can also talk to a medium to connect with your loved one in heaven. When my aunt passed away, I could feel her around me a LOT, but I also spoke with a medium at AskNow. She was able to help me understand how my aunt passed away (something our family did not know), which was so comforting! When you call, just ask to be connected with a medium.
What Happens After we Die?
When we die, our soul is released from its earthly body and becomes pure energy once again.
There is no need to fear getting lost or getting “stuck”. A loving being, usually a Spirit Guide and family member in spirit will be there to welcome you back Home.
People who have had near death experiences report a feeling of pure love and peace beyond words!
Rest assured that you will be guided lovingly to where you need to go, to a place you will feel nothing but love, joy and acceptance.
But what of those Spirits who stick around?
Sometimes souls do choose to “hang around” the earth plane for a while. This could be for hours or a few days. IT is most common when we die suddenly or when we leave behind a family we are strongly attached to, such as young children.
But, again, there is nothing to fear. This is a choice our soul makes, and in most cases, we are soon ready to fully cross over.
Also, time is different when we are in Spirit form than when we are in a human body. What seems like months for us may just be a blip of time when we are in Spirit.
What Happens After we Die? Life Review
After we die, we go through a “life review”. Imagine being surrounded by Divine support and “watching” your life on the big screen, complete with surround sound and in HD (though there may not be popcorn!).
During this process, we are able to shed the negativity we had regarding events or life lessons. Why? Because we are able to let go of the human aspects we held onto during that lifetime.
Through this process, we regain our sense of the big picture—of why we chose to incarnate into the life we just left behind. By the end, we are able to reconcile the lessons we learned that have advanced our spiritual development.
After the Life Review
The most beautiful part of what happens after we die takes place after the life review. It is at this point that we are ready to enjoy hanging out at Home.
We get to catch up with deceased loved ones, learn from our spirit guides and visit with our ancestors. It’s a family reunion of sorts with only joy, peace and laughter.
We then get to decide if we want to incarnate again or enjoy more time of introspection and reflection to make plans for our next incarnation.
Most souls decide to stay Home for a while and connect with their Earthly loved ones energetically – by sending them “messages” and “signs”, etc.
Others feel it’s important to their spiritual development to move on quickly into another life incarnation.
And after much spiritual growth, some choose to stay with Source and become guides, teachers or ambassadors for newly-arriving souls.
A Soul might decide to be a spirit guide or to help guide others who have newly crossed over.
We can also take some time off between lifetimes to learn and study concepts that are beneficial to living in the physical realm or to develop techniques that will enable us to help others in our next lifetime.
The important thing to understand is that WE are in charge. We decide what to do next, and get to make those decisions while surrounded by pure love and peace in a supportive environment.
As you can see, what happens after we die is a beautiful process of going Home… as we are surrounded by pure love and Divine support!
Next: You can also talk to a medium now. Just ask to be connected to a medium when you call :)
