Thinking of having a prediction reading? Today, I’m going to share with you four reasons why you might want to reconsider, and give you a tip as to what you should do instead.

I’ve been on both sides of the “reading fence.”
I’ve given intuitive and mediumship readings for over 16 years and have been a client of other readers, too.
From my experience, readings that focus solely on learning the future tend to be the least helpful. They are just not empowering at ALL.
A reading is the most helpful when it offers you insight. Insight can lead to an “Aha” moment and help put things in perspective. It also allows you to be empowered. Let’s take a look at the cons of a prediction reading:
1. A Prediction Reading is Affected by Free Will
The main reason you might want to rethink having a prediction reading is because we all have free will. Free will means that we have personal choice. In other words, we can choose what we want to do with our lives.
In a reading, a psychic may:
- tune into your energetic vibration
- connect with your spirit guides
- interpret tarot cards
Or, an intuitive reader may use a combination of these methods, or use a totally different modality. The important thing to know is this:
In a prediction reading, the intuitive can tap into your past, what’s going on with you right now (your present), and where you are headed if you stay on the path you’re on. Notice it says, if you stay on the path you’re on. This is super important, because you have the ability to switch things up if you want to.
Yeah, but what about fate?
Bottom Line: You can pick the people you want to be friends with, the route you take to work, and even eat ice cream for dinner if you want to. Everything is subject to change depending on the personal choices you make.
The only reason I could think of to have a prediction reading is to avoid potential major snags in the road of life (like a new job is a totally bad fit and against what your Higher Self really wants) and then, make sure that you find an ethical and experienced intuitive reader.
PS – think about other types of predictions, like the weather. How often are the weather forecasters wrong? And they have tons of technology to help them. A prediction reading is not an exact science.
2. Psychic Dependency
People can become addicted to just about anything and believe it or not, psychic readings are no exception.
And with the New Age movement in full swing and intuitive readers easily accessible via psychic hotlines and the internet, this type of dependency is occurring more often than ever. And please know that I say this with zero judgment because I became dependent on psychics years ago, too.
Just like with other types of dependencies, there is usually an underlying emotional cause. (This is why you should learn how to use psychic readings as a TOOL – it’s like a super power :)
Some people will keep going back to the same psychic again and again, and others will see many different psychics over a period of weeks or months “just to see” what each one has to say, or to get some reassurance that everything will work out. (I’ve noticed this trend of “psychic hopping” on Facebook.)
This trend seems to occur much more frequently when the readings focus on predicting the future instead of insight and empowerment.
Unfortunately, what can end up happening to people that have one prediction reading after another is that it becomes difficult (if not impossible) to make a decision without consulting a psychic or tarot card reader, etc.
If this sounds like you, I’d encourage you to read these articles so that you can begin empowering yourself:
3. We’re Not Privy to Everything
Contrary to common belief, intuitive readers are not privy to everything.
If you are the type of person who is easily influenced, and your spiritual team and Higher Self are trying to keep you on track, they will not allow certain pieces of information to come through in a reading. I find this to be especially true in a prediction reading.
Some people can hear something from a psychic, take it as fact, and actually make it happen because they hear it. Via the power of suggestion, they focus on it and end up attracting it into their experience.
For example, say that you ask a reader if you are going to get the job at XYZ Company if you apply. This is a job that you would really love to have. The psychic tells you “no.” With this NO, your hopes are deflated and you don’t even apply for the job. This is a bad idea because:
- You’ll never really know what could have come from applying for the job. If it’s on your heart to apply, you should! That tug on your heart is your Higher Self nudging you to do so. Maybe you don’t get the job… but maybe the employer tells you, “You’re not quite right for us, but let me connect you with my friend over at ABC Company.”
- You give up your power of personal choice. Never let a psychic tell you what you should or should not do with your life.
However, if the reader was giving you insight into the situation, you might get a better understanding of why you haven’t gotten a job yet, or even uncover a career that you’d be even better suited for. See how much more helpful that would be than asking am I going to get the job?
4. You Can’t Learn if You Already Know It All
This may sound corny, but it’s true: If you already know everything that’s going to happen, what would you learn? Part of growing and evolving as a human being is learning from the experiences (both good and bad), that we go through in our life.
What would you learn if you already had all the answers? Probably nothing. And pretend for a minute that your future could accurately be predicted. Would you really want to know?
Alternatives to a Prediction Reading
After reading this, you probably think that I’m against readings. Nope, not at all. Actually, I believe that readings are fantastic tools and I’ve had many amazing readings, including from the psychics at AskNow.
What I am against is having a reading for the sole purpose of finding out your future because these types of sessions are often unreliable and unhelpful.
Instead of focusing on a prediction reading, I would recommend that you find a reader that focuses on helping people empower themselves to make their own choices. You can find this with a reputable tarot card reader, intuitive reader, or Akashic Record Reader.
