Whew. How to Change Your Destiny. If that isn’t a heavy title, I don’t know what is!
Destiny is something often talked about but never really dug into. We’ll hear things like, “Oh, Luke and Laura were destined to be together!” or, “It’s like she was destined for that job.”
Hey, that’s all good and well but what on earth is destiny? And… can we change it? Or, are we all destined (no pun intended) to live like puppets on a string?
Definition of Destiny
Technically, destiny it is the events that will happen to a particular person or thing in the future.
But who determines that? (Spoiler alert: For the most part, we do.)
We ALL have the ability to seize the reins of our life and understand how to change your destiny.
In order to do that however, we need to know a few things:
- Destiny is not always the end-all, be-all.
- We have way more control than we think. (And free will, yay!)
- An open mind is key.
A quick note before we jump in: *Most* things can be changed, but some can’t. Some things are part of a bigger cosmic plan that we whipped up before we were born (in order to learn certain lessons/have certain experiences).
I highly recommend you read the post How Free Will Can Change Psychic Predictions for an easy explanation about destiny, predictions and free will.
Okay, let’s get into the good stuff:
How to Change Your Destiny in 5 Steps
The intention of this exercise is to discover what your predispositions and and how you can change your destiny based on what you discover in step 1 below.
Step 1. Take a moment and evaluate your current path
You can close your eyes here and now or grab a latte and settle in a cozy spot in your bunny slippers. Pick one big thing that you are currently working towards:
- A specific job
- Trying to make a business work
- Buying a home
- Getting engaged
- Trying to have a child
- Deciding if you want to go back to school
Now ask yourself the million dollar questions:
Are these things I actively WANT? Or, do I feel FORCED to pursue them?
Gasp! I know! Powerful, right?
Note: It’s important to be distinct here about externally forced and internally forced…
Is a certain family member pressuring you to have another child? Or, do YOU feel like you HAVE to have two children – even though you’re not really sure you want to.
Either way, allow yourself to remove all predestined notions about what your life should be. Let all of that pressure float away on a cloud.
Seriously, imagine packing all that junk up, sticking it on a cloud and letting it float far, far away.
- Where do you see yourself?
- What does your ideal future look like?
It may look totally different than when you sat down to start this exercise and if so, that’s okay.
Step 2. Visualize your ideal future
Now that you have that ideal future in your head, focus on visualizing it every day. Visualize everything, down to the smallest detail.
Remember… this is about changing your destiny here and being a CONSCIOUS creator of your life. Imagination and visualization are the easiest ways to get started changing your destiny :)
Do you want a house in your home town? Great! How many bedrooms and bathrooms does it have? What color will you paint the kitchen?
This is your time to be fiercely intentional.
If it helps, create a vision board for inspiration and motivation. And, you know I don’t leave you hanging, so here is how to create a vision board. Have fun with it!
Step 3. Make it part of your routine
I have come to LOVE my daily visualization time. I plug in my salt lamp, diffuse some essential oils and do one of the following (choose whatever you’re in the mood for!):
- Journal. Grab a notebook, sparkly pens and journal about the thing/situation you desire. Imagine it in vivid detail as you write.
- Watch a “movie” in your head. Close your eyes, take a few deep breaths, and imagine living your desire. Pretend that you are the star of your own movie, and watch how your dream unfolds! Be very specific here – imagine everything, right down to the shoes you are wearing and what the weather is like!
- Use Pinterest. Another fun thing to do is to go onto Pinterest and Pin a bunch of stuff that pertains to your dream!
Take time and focus on how you’ll FEEL once you achieve/own that _________ (whatever is important to you). Be specific – how will you react once you achieve/own ________? How will your friends and family respond?
Visualize it into action!
Pro Tip: This visualization stuff is part of the Law of Attraction. It’s incredibly cool and if you don’t know anything about it, I recommend you learn about it, pronto. Seriously friends, this stuff can CHANGE. YOUR. LIFE.
I DO NOT recommend The Secret DVD (it’s waaaaay too vague and they don’t give you any secrets!).
Instead, I would start with the book Ask and It is Given by Esther Hicks. (Link is an Amazon affiliate link. I make a tiny commission if you purchase the book. I personally own ALL of Esther’s stuff it has changed my life!)
Step 4. Work from the end-game forward
This is critical. Visualizing only does so much without action. You were waiting for this, right? The tough part.
We are stepping into the big leagues now! In order to not get overwhelmed, focus on just ONE aspect of your vision board/dream life each day.
Let’s say it’s a new dream job. Now, will this job require you to get more or different education? Where is the best place to get it? Will you need to save up some money for it? Then think… Will I need to relocate? Do I have dependents that will need to relocate with me? What will they need?
It’s a lot and you may feel a little uncomfortable stepping outside of your “safe” zone, but remember:
You are making things happen :) It’s never comfortable for anyone to step outside of their safety net, but you are discovering how to change your destiny for the better – which is SO exciting!
This is where your vision starts to become a PLAN. And there is a LOT of power in that!
Step 5. Reevaluate
There WILL be times when you need to reevaluate your new found vision, and that’s totally fine. For instance, a job pops up that is closely related to your dream job, but isn’t an exact match, however…
You feel AMAZING about it!
Don’t fall into the trap of blindly following the plan. If an awesome opportunity or idea comes up along the way and it feels good… evaluate it, connect with your heart and see what you really think about it.
Remember, you are a conscious creator working on how to change your destiny here. Energy ebbs and flows and is in constant motion – give yourself permission to flow with it.
Maybe you come across a foster child that you are feeling a connection with and want to adopt – but your original dream was to have a biological child.
Don’t reject an idea just because it’s not part of your vision board. Ask yourself: What is at the root of my goal? A child to love and care for and an addition to your family, right?
Things may not always appear how you expect, so be prepared. The Universe works in amazing ways!
That’s about all I have for now, friends.
By using this exercise, you will come to understand what you’re doing due to internal pressure and how to change your destiny. This will help you live an accomplished life and fulfill your best potential!
