Famous psychics charge big bucks and are idolized by fans from all over the world. Here’s what happened when I had a reading with one of the most well known intuitive mediums in the country and what I learned from it:

Why Did I Hire One of the Most Famous Psychics in the World?
I waited over a year for my reading.
I’ll keep the identity of the reader to myself for now. I will tell you though, at the time of my session, was was Montel Williams “daytime” friend.
The appointment cost me a lot of money. Seriously – a lot. Like, maybe as much as some people’s mortgage payment.
If you’re wondering what would cause an otherwise sane person to spend this kind of money: desperation.
I was at the beginning of my psychic development journey and, although it was an exciting time, I was fearful that people would judge me or think I was crazy. I wondered if I should pursue this calling or do something more conventional.
So you see, I felt as though I had to talk to this famous psychic because she had written lots of books and appeared on television many times and therefore, must be an expert. I mean, she had been on the Larry King Show for heaven’s sake! I just knew that she could guide me to the exact right path.
The Big Day Arrives
The day of the reading finally came and I was ready. Half an hour before my appointment, I sat at my kitchen table like a total dork with my phone, paper and pen all lined up (this was going to be a phone session).
The call finally came. OMG, this is really happening! I was shaking with nerves.
The omnipotent one began by asking if I was still having “the headaches and low back pain.” I answered, “I guess.” I mean, I did have back pain sometimes.
The next 10 minutes of my 30 minute session were followed by a list of supplements that I should be taking and general health advice – like eat more chicken and fish for protein.
In her famous raspy voice, she then said, “I want you to take lecithin”, and then spelled it: L-E-C-I-T-H-I-N.
I could feel the wind swishing out of my sails because this is definitely not what I signed up for. At $700 for a half hour reading, it had just cost me $230 for someone to tell me to eat more protein!
I started to wonder if this was one of those psychic scams. But then I calmed myself down by thinking: Maybe she’s saving the best for last and great insight is coming. Spoiler alert: it didn’t.
Houston, We Have a Problem
Next, this woman, one of the most famous psychics in the country, told me that I would be meeting a man with dark hair in the fall of 2003. Whoops! I’m already married, I told her.
“Well, it’s not going to work out, hon.” Wow, really, because we’ve been together since I was 13 years old. Panic started to set in and it hit me that this reader who I had looked up to since I started my journey may not be legitimate after all. I hoped she’d prove me wrong.
She then asked if I was “surrounded by papers.” I said, yes. Now we were getting somewhere!
She said this was because I was writing a book. I explained that she was probably seeing books because I had gone back to school. “I know hon”, she said, “I’m a psychic… but you are going to write a book.”
In the last few minutes, I worked up the nerve to ask the million dollar question – maybe this wouldn’t be a waste of money after all. Is spiritual work my life’s path or, should I just carry on with going back to school?”
The answer: Yes dear, you are naturally very intuitive.
And just like that, it was over.
Talk about anti-climactic. When I hung up, I sat with my jaw dropped in disbelief. I had waited a year with bated breath for nothing. Where was the great insight?
I had a sick feeling in my stomach because I had just flushed a fortune down the toilet. Maybe that divorce she foresaw would happen after all because I knew my husband would be furious that I had just wasted a lot of money.
Avoid These Mistakes That I Made
Even though this was not a good experience, I did learn a lot:
- I put this woman up on a pedestal. Famous psychics are just human beings, just like the rest of us.
- I didn’t make a decision about what to do with my life for an entire year while I waited for this reading. How dumb. At the time, I was “psychic hopping” and becoming totally dependent, hoping a psychic could fix my problems instead of taking accountability for my own life.
- If I had done research online, I would have read the negative stories from other people. Note to self: Watching famous psychics on Larry King is not research!
- Someone does not have to be one of the most famous psychics in the world to give a great reading. There are wonderfully gifted intuitives and mediums all over the world who are not famous. For example, I had a reading with a fabulous intuitive reader at Oranum and now recommended as the BEST psychic chat network online (affliate). You can also check out my post how to find a great psychic.
- Instead of waiting until the end of the reading, I would have asked my question earlier. That way, we would have had time to discuss the issue in further detail.
The Good News
I’ve studied mediumship and psychic development since 2000. I’ve worked as a professional reader since about 2009. In this time, I’ve seen that there are plenty of legitimate and ethical readers in this world (such as myself) with very high standards. If you would like to find one, the tips here will help. You can also learn the best questions to ask a psychic in this post.
Try not to let a few bad apples spoil the whole bunch.
That was over 10 years ago and I am still happily married. However, I am in the process of writing a book (a series for Kindle). Does this mean that the reader was legitimate? Honestly, I don’t know. I’ve had many readings over the years and I always get something out of them, but I was not comfortable with this particular reading at all. It felt as though the woman was reading off of a script.
In her defense, I do know that famous psychics open themselves up to tremendous scrutiny and that sometimes, things don’t make sense right away. I’ve had this happen with clients. I pass on a message or a bit of information, and they can’t validate it right away.
And I decided, all on my own, that this spiritual journey is the path for me.
